Celebrating Climate Week Every Week of the Year

We want to make electric vehicle charging more accessible in San Francisco. So, along with SF Environment, Public Works and the Public Utilities Commission, we’re bringing charging the curb. We are starting to create a network of charging stations at parking spaces throughout the city. That’s in addition to the charging stations in our garages. This pilot program will make it more convenient for people who drive EVs to charge in San Francisco.
Thank You for Making Transit Employee Appreciation Day a Success

We saw a boost in people riding and sending in praise – commendations – for our operators on Transit Employee Appreciation Day. Thank you for your support. March 18 this year was a banner day here at the SFMTA. It was Transit Employee Appreciation Day, and so many of you rode Muni and showed your appreciation that it’s our turn to thank you. How many? We surpassed 531,000 riders on March 18, or 35,000 more riders than our average daily March ridership.
San Francisco State Broadcasting Students Create Muni-Focused Traffic Reports

Muni recently became an even more important transportation option. SF State used to have a dedicated shuttle that ran between campus and Daly City BART. However, that shuttle was discontinued last year. So, students, faculty and staff who take BART now count on the 28, 28R, 57 and 58 buses to get to the Daly City station. And through the Gator Pass transit program, SF State students can use their student ID to ride public transit, including Muni.
Muni Matters: Ridership on the Rise

Major companies such as OpenAI and Databricks are expanding their offices in Mission Bay and downtown. That means thousands of new employees could be commuting via Muni in the coming years. In February, San Francisco hosted the NBA All Stars and just last week, the NCAA for March Madness games. The city is also preparing to host major events like Super Bowl LX and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Combined, these events are expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to San Francisco.
Uninterrupted Mobile While You’re Mobile: Cellular Service Comes to Muni Metro

Our riders regularly use mobile phones to work, check in with friends and family and get news and information no matter where they are. So now, they don’t have to worry about losing connection while they’re underground on Muni. All of this supports and improves our customer experience. Providing cell service underground also will help us generate revenue. This is another part of our partnership with BART.
New Report: Van Ness BRT Earns High Marks for Travel Time and Safety Improvements

A new report provides transit performance and traffic safety data for the Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). The Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) was recently ranked among the top BRT corridors in the world for providing a “world class customer experience." Now, a detailed report backs up the claim. Today is Transit Employee Appreciation Day - Join us to Celebrate!

This has been a bit of a quest for Muni bus operator Mc Allen. “Muni operators often are invisible to the public,” he said. “I wanted to do something about it.”Allen realized that many passengers may not know there’s a commendation system for operators. He created a website to let riders know how to commend operators. “I want to remind San Franciscans that there is a way to show your appreciation,” he said.
The 2025 Safe Driver Awards: Honoring Our Safety Superheroes

More than 800 of our operators have met the safe driving standard for at least one year. We thank them all for their service. The Warriors donated special jerseys at the 2024 Safe Driver Awards. Superheroes drive among usOur operators keep Muni moving. They are an essential part of the agency, and they are invaluable to the San Franciscans who depend on public transit to get to work, school, medical appointments and other important destinations. And our customers recognize their dedication.
Share Your Feedback: Possible Muni Service Cuts

We’re asking for your feedback on Muni service cuts expected this summer. We want to hear from you as we work to reduce the impacts of possible Muni service cuts. Due to a $50 million budget shortfall, we may have to make cuts to Muni service this summer. We suggested three potential approaches to our Board of Directors at our Feb. 4 meeting. We received feedback from both our Board and the public. Now, we want to hear from you and other Muni riders across the city.

Cuts to Muni service are expected this summer. Because of the $50 million budget shortfall facing the SFMTA starting this July, we are going to have to cut Muni service this summer. This is not what we want to do. But, due to our budget constraints, we have no choice. We understand the ramifications this is going to have for the community. We are doing everything we can to minimize the impacts on San Franciscans.
