Team USA
Established in 1894 and based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) acts as both the National Olympic Committee and the National Paralympic Committee for the country. The USOPC is dedicated to safeguarding, supporting, and empowering American athletes. It is responsible for assembling U.S. teams for events such as the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Youth Olympic Games, Pan American Games, and Parapan American Games, while also managing the Olympic and Paralympic movements in the United States. As a federally chartered nonprofit organization, the USOPC does not rely on federal funding, except for specific programs aimed at Paralympic military veterans. It stands out as one of the few National Olympic Committees globally that also oversees Paralympic initiatives. Approximately 82% of the USOPC's budget is allocated directly to its mission of athlete support through various programs designed for both athletes and their respective National Governing Bodies. This support includes performance grants, training facilities, sports medicine, coaching education, health insurance, promotional opportunities, educational and career services, outfitting and travel assistance, as well as programs focused on safe sports and anti-doping. For further information, please check out our investment strategy. Moreover, the USOPC manages the bidding process for U.S. cities that wish to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as the Youth Olympic and Pan American Games. It also plays a supportive role in the bidding processes for numerous other international sporting events. Additionally, the USOPC is responsible for approving trial sites and procedures for selecting teams for the Olympic, Paralympic, Youth Olympic, Pan American, and Parapan American Games. The governance of the USOPC is carried out by a board of directors and a professional staff led by a CEO. The board receives advice and insights from three councils: the Athletes’ Advisory Council, the National Governing Bodies Council, and the Multi-Sport Organizations Council.
