Hinchcliff nominated as new chair; board encouraged to work together and support staff

The school board started their meeting off by Martin Balben stepping down as board chair due to the nature of the position requiring nearly a part-time position in addition to his full-time occupation. Jennie Beach nominated Ray Hinchcliff, who stated he would assume the role again having served as board chair previously. Natalie Kashi seconded, and Hinchliff took his place as chair of the meeting.

Tetonia Council receives updates on drinking water for city

With whisperings of potential growth in Tetonia, the city contracted with Forsgren Engineering to conduct a drinking water survey to better understand the needed resources to continue serving the future properties and developments. During their regular meeting last Tuesday, they received the report. According to the 2020 census, Tetonia had 308 people and saw around a 1% growth rate year over year.
Middle school students spend Spring Break on a history tour back East

A couple dozen 8th grade students from Teton Middle School spent their spring break on the third annual history tour on the East Coast. American History teacher Angela Hoopes escorted the group through Washington D.C. with stops at famous monuments, memorials, and museums. Teton Middle School has encouraged their teachers to think outside the box, and a trip like this was always in the works as they felt it was important for the students to have this opportunity.
High school students discover Europe; Prague, Vienna, Budapest

While most of the valley pulled on their puffy vests and winter jackets for another round of snow showers, Teton High students took to the skies and spent Spring Break touring palaces and chatting with a guide from Budapest. High school math teacher Dayna Long escorted 22 students on an annual overseas trip during Spring Break last week as the group traveled with Education First Tours and discovered Prague, Vienna, and Budapest.

On April 4, Paul Shapiro signed a plea agreement with the State, pleading guilty to stalking, burglary and multiple charges of grand theft, while striking a deal to have the majority of the charges against him in four cases dismissed. Through the plea agreement with the State, Jackson resident Paul Shapiro pleaded guilty to the sixteen charges he faces in Teton County, ID, earlier this week.
Commissioners discuss county representation at upcoming meeting for Grand Targhee expansion

After coming to a standstill on the decision for who would represent the county in the March 24 meeting, the commissioners met in a special meeting held on Monday to further evaluate who would attend the upcoming open house held as an informational meeting on the Draft Environmental Impact Study for the Grand Targhee Expansion. The county was offered to have a booth where a representative would explain the socioeconomic impacts Teton County, ID will face should the expansion go into place.

Sprrrring is here. Many of us have been looking forward to it with visions of sunny, warm days, melting snow, greening grass, sprouting flowers, and… what’s that other thing? Vole trails showing up. So far this spring, my yard looks about normal for vole trails, probably fewer than the last couple of years. They go in cycles; as the vole population increases, there is less food to go around, and their predators thrive, so the vole population decreases accordingly.
Community Emergency Response Team trainings underway; open to public

Teton County has revitalized the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) within the last two weeks and held their second training on Wednesday. Around 16-18 community members attended the training and learned about fire suppression and response.The goal of CERT is to help the greatest number of people in the fastest time during a disaster. The fire extinguishers spewed the fire suppressant on the boiling water lit with propane.
