Investigation leads to at least three men indicted for conspiracy to take out Sheriff Lemieux and Judge Walker

Documents revealing that at least three men have been indicted for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder of local Magistrate Judge Jason Walker and Sheriff Clint Lemieux were partially unsealed as of April 30, 2025. Defendants Javier Ortiz Lara, Jose Noel Ortiz Salas, Anthony ‘TJ’ Wilson, and Edgardo Soto were listed on the partially redacted indictment as defendants who appeared before a grand jury on April 17, 2025.

There was one feature of April that made it notable, and it wasn’t the temperature or the wind. The average temperature was within a degree of normal for the month, with the usual wide swings on either side of average. The wind gusted over 40 MPH at times last month, but that wasn’t unusual. The end of March through the beginning of April is historically the windiest time in the valley. Remember that it was on April 4, 2022, that the Spud Drive-in screen blew down.
Teton Valley Health passes accreditation with flying colors as a critical access hospital

Local hospital Teton Valley Health Care recently was reviewed and passed their annual accreditation with Det Norske Veritas (DNV), an assurance and risk management company to deem hospitals in compliance. TVH passedChief Nurse and Chief Operating Officer at TVH Lisa Carlson explained that this is the third year that DNV has accredited TVH, and this year yielded the best review yet with minimal issues and no findings that indicated systemic issues within the hospital.
8th Graders argue for more rec opportunities in the valley in essay contest

Over the past winter, around 50 8th-grade students at TMS worked on an argumentative essay in response to the prompt of “Ways to Make Teton Valley Better for Teens” proposed by 8th grade English Language Arts teacher Daniel Pistoresi. Simon L. was crowned first place and awarded $100, Cayden P. received $50, and Allie M. took home $25. County commissioners Wolfe and James propose re-doing the P&Z board; no longer on the table

On Monday, the agenda for the county commissioners showed an action item for the board to change the number of board members on the county’s planning and zoning board from seven to five; they chose to gather their bearings before making the motion and tabled the discussion to May 12. Wolfe confirmed a few days later, he will no longer be pursuing this change.

In an official letter to the governor, the Teton County Idaho Democratic Party presented the three names for their candidates to fill the soon to be vacant position on the board of county commissioners: Bill Leake, Dan Powers, and David Susong. District 2 Commissioner Mike Whitfield announced his official resignation on Monday, April 28. He will be retiring from his office with approximately 20 months left in his second term as commissioner due to ongoing heath concerns.

With a month left in school, every senior is asked “So what’s next?”. According to Teton School District Post Secondary Advisor Mr. Russ Tibbitts, Teton High School will be sending some of the highest percentages of students in the state onto bigger and better plans after graduation, large in part to a grant program that supports rural high school students plan for their next steps.

He isn’t a tall man, most tell him they picture him taller. His walk is steady with a little stiffness, a hint he’s been bent over many times with a horse’s hoof in hand. The crow feet by his eyes show he’s had a good laugh or two and smiles often. His voice carries stories that would draw in wild grandchildren when he’s about to tell a tale about riding into bear-ridden woods of Yellowstone or into the desert of Utah.

At the time of this writing, Sunday, April 27th, the last measurable snow we had at my measuring spot north of the airport in Driggs was on April 18th. Measurable snow means it was no less than one tenth of an inch deep on the white wooden measuring boards when I stuck my ruler in it. There is a good chance that more snow will fall between now and the time you read this, but how much and whether or not it is measurable remains to be seen.
