The storm that tore up Holiday Shores off Highway 79-N was first thought to be straight line winds. But a damage assessment by the National Weather service later determined the April 6 storm to be an EF-0 tornado. Here's what the Weather Service said about it:The tornado developed over the river in the waterway west of Holiday Shores Drive in Marshall County. The first-observed damage was a swath of softwood trees along the shore.

Like a lot of people around Marshall County, Mike Sandefer of Guntersville is a proud Jacksonville State University alum. But he has a unique distinction. He was the key man behind the launch of the university radio station 50 years in the fall of 1975. It took a ton of work for the station to get its FCC permit in the early going. Mike finally drove to Atlanta, got some tips from the FCC office and then they got their permit.

How much quiet time do we need? Even a few minutes can make a difference, whether at morning coffee or just before bedtime. I’ve read that our quiet time should be at least 10 minutes to a half hour. Silence is powerful. It helps us to refocus, think creatively, lower the blood pressure, reduce stress, encourage self-reflection and awareness. Silence allows the mind to quiet down and unclutter. Some people want to be constantly on the go. Many don’t understand the value of quiet time.
