By Paula Pyzik ScottThe Bluffton Sportsmen’s Club will host its 81st annual Trout Derby on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Buckeye Lake. Should a club member catch trout No.1 between 2:00-4:30 p.m. on Derby Day, they will receive half of the day’s jackpot plus $1,000. In total there will be over $4,000 in cash and prizes on tagged trout in the quarry. In 2024, the jackpot was $2,250 and half went to Cory Glick.

By Paula Pyzik ScottIn a departure from Bluffton Lions tradition, over 100 individuals were honored as 2024 Citizens of the Year at an April 15 celebration. Volunteers who support the three Et Cetera Inc. shops–the Et Cetera Thrift Shop, Book ReViews and Bluffton Ten Thousand Villages–were recognized for their impact on Bluffton’s downtown commercial district. Celebrations took place at the fellowship hall of First Mennonite Church.

By Paula Pyzik ScottThe Bluffton Area Ministerial Association (BAMA) invites the community to participate in the April 18 Good Friday procession of the Cross beginning at 11:30 a.m. at English Lutheran Church, 111 Grove St. The procession stops at six BAMA member churches where blessings and prayers will be offered by local clergy. This is a Bluffton tradition of 25 years or more.

By Paula Pyzik ScottThe Bluffton Exempted Village School District has submitted a petition for vacation of a section of Vine St. between N. Lawn Ave and N. Jackson St. for approximately 120 yards with the intention to create an artificial turf practice field. A public hearing was held by the Village of Bluffton Streets and Alleys committee on Tuesday, March 25 to hear about the purpose of the request and to field questions and comments from area residents.

By Paula Pyzik ScottThe March 2025 breakfast meeting for Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce meetings began with a lively meal and networking session that left director Jim Enneking looking for someone who could whistle really loudly. A drawing by breakfast sponsor Lisa Wenger of CCR Realtors for a gift basket from 1861 Wine Lounge helped get guests’ attention. Wenger also shared that she is celebrating 11 years of doing business in Bluffton.
