The Carbon Trust
The Carbon Trust is a consultancy based in the United Kingdom, founded in March 2001. Its primary mission is to speed up the decarbonization efforts in the private sector and enhance energy efficiency both in the UK and globally. Initially, the Carbon Trust received funding of approximately £50 million from UK tax revenue sourced from the Climate Change Levy (CCL), which taxes energy usage by businesses. The trust's first objective was to assist companies in lowering their energy expenses to help balance the extra costs incurred from the CCL. The creation of the Carbon Trust was announced in the 2000 UK White Paper titled "Climate Change - the UK Programme" (Cmd 4913).
