Gardaí in Ennis are investigating an alleged assault of a teenage boy in the town last week. The incident occurred at around 1.30pm at Newbridge Road in Ennis when a group of youths were approached by a man in his 40s. The man, described as being of stocky build and grey hair, began berating the ground, before punching one boy in the face and then making off towards the Gort Road. Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Catríona Holohan has appealed for information about this incident.

Inis Artists are delighted to have been involved in a unique collaboration with Clare County Council’s Biodiversity Office and Creative Ireland Clare to produce a collection of artwork to highlight the conservation importance of a rare bat species in Clare, the Lesser Horseshoe Bat. The resulting exhibition of their work will be on display in the new DeValera library in Ennis from Fri 16th – Mon 26th May to coincide with National Biodiversity Week 2025.

Two eco-projects by young people from Co Clare claimed prizes at this year’s ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards (YEA), which took place in the Convention Centre Dublin. The young people from Coláiste Muire, Ennis and St Joseph’s Secondary School, Tulla were among more than 1,000 people who attended the major event, at which over 100 competing projects were showcased, representing 65 schools and youth organisations in 28 counties across the island of Ireland.

The Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard was tasked on Sunday afternoon to assist a powerboat with engine difficulty on Lough Derg. The vessel, with one adult and two children on board, was reported to be north of Deer Rock along the Tipperary shore of the lake. Watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue coordination centre (MRCC) on Valentia Island in Kerry tasked the Killaloe unit at around 3.30pm.
