The Bishop of Killaloe has expressed great sadness at the passing of Pope Francis this Easter Week. Having been appointed bishop of Killaloe by him in 2016 Bishop Fintan Monahan had the opportunity of meet the Pope soon aftewards, during the course for new bishops in Rome. Bishop Monahan said: “I met him again for the occasion of the Ad Limina visit of the Irish Bishops in January 2017 and of course during his visit to Ireland for World meeting of families in 2018.

Two people have been airlifted to hospital following a road traffic collision in West Clare this afternoon. The two car crash occurred at around 1.15pm at Tullaroe on the L2016 road that connects Lisdeen and Querrin Village. Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Kilkee and Kilrush stations were mobilised to the incident along with Gardaí and a number of National Ambulance Service resources. These included four ambulances and a rapid response paramedic vehicle.

25 Independent Bookshops across Ireland will participate in the first ever “Global Book Crawl” launching simultaneously in 16 countries on 21st to 27th April. For one week, hundreds of Independent bookshops in over 50 cities around the world ranging from Westport to Brooklyn, Stockholm, Malaga to Sydney to Mexico City will distribute “The Global Book Crawl Passport” to book lovers.

A man is recovering in hospital after he was injured in a fall on a walking trail in North Clare this afternoon. The incident occurred at around 3.00pm about a kilometre north of O’Brien’s Tower at the Cliffs of Moher. It’s understood that members of the public, who had also been visiting the cliffs, reported the incident to staff at the visitor centre. They in turn contacted the emergency services.

Happy Days and Hard Times is a collection of memories, stories and images, compiled by the National Museum of Ireland, and it includes a wonderful submission from a Clare visitor who recalls his mother’s stories of fishing off the Cliffs of Moher.
