By Mike Monahan CERRO GORDO – The week started off great as the Cerro Gordo/Bement softball team won its first Lincoln Prairie Conference game of the season with a season-high 22 runs in a 22-10 victory over Okaw Valley on April 7 at Cerro Gordo. However, the Lady Broncos dropped two non-conference games to LeRoy 15-0 on April 8 and a 19-4 contest to Warrensburg-Latham on April 9. LeRoy is the number six team in the latest Illinois Softball Coaches Association rankings and boasts a 14-1 record.

Knights freshman Mace Stirrett hauls in a fly ball in right field for the second out of the third and final inning in ALAH’s home game with Blue Ridge on April 11. Mace would fire the ball to first baseman Carson Augustine to double off the Blue Ridge player for the final out of the game. The game ended after three as ALAH won 21-0.

By Mike Monahan BROADLANDS – The Cerro Gordo/Bement baseball team nearly picked up a Lincoln Prairie Conference win last Thursday, but fell 3-2 to Heritage in a game where all of the runs were scored in the first three innings. CGB dropped a LPC game to Okaw Valley 11-4 as the Timberwolves took a 10-3 lead with a six-run sixth inning. Kole Somers was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Mike Freese drove in a run and was 1-for-4. Braydn Strack was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
