His recognition followed Saturday when the Alabama Sports Writers Association named him Class 3A Coach of the Year upon the release of the 2025 All-State baseball team. Cornelius led the Eagles to a 26-12 record, an area championship and the program’s first Class 3A quarterfinal berth.

The Alabama Sports Writers Association took full notice and rewarded the Addison senior appropriately. Wilkins garnered Class 1A Hitter of the Year honors when the 2025 All-State baseball team was announced Saturday by the ASWA, which also recognized numerous other standouts in The Times’ coverage area.

Cullman’s John Lunsford (golf), Cullman’s Allie Krigbaum (tennis), West Point’s Bailey Sutter (golf) and West Point’s Charli Aris (golf) were among the state’s rising seniors to earn spots on their respective North squads.

Published 2:48 pm Tuesday, May 27, 2025 HANCEVILLE — With the city of Hanceville’s insurance provider no longer offering liability insurance for the police department, the council has decided to liquidate all HPD assets, including the now unused fleet of vehicles. Although, the provider recently informed the council the HPD’s liability coverage could be restored with caveats, that decision would not be considered until the next policy renewal date in July 2026.

One notable group of students recognized, was the West Point High School Scholars’ Bowl A team who, after building a long-standing reputation as a powerhouse team in State and Regional tournaments, earned its first National Championship title in the Traditional Public Schools Division in April.
