    CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Thursday, May 29, 2025, at about 11:56 a.m., the Cartersville Police Department responded to 175 Main Street Market Place, 175 Main Apartments, to conduct a safety welfare check at the request of a third party. According to police reports, once contact was established, Jonathan Sentell produced a firearm and pointed it at the two responding officers. Sentell then retreated into his apartment and refused to comply with the officer’s commands.

    Traci Taylor stepped into history a half decade ago, continuing a centuries-old tradition honoring America’s deceased veterans. She didn’t know it then, but her actions would blossom into a Memorial Day tribute that today involves an honor guard, a cannon salute and the posting of hundreds of flags on the graves of Floyd County’s veterans. “For years, I would go up to East View (Cemetery) and place flags at the graves” of her veteran relatives, Taylor said.
