The Cougar is released weekly on Wednesdays throughout the fall and spring semesters, with daily updates available online at thedailycougar.com. The University is committed to offering equal educational opportunities, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, veteran status, or sexual orientation. Funding for The Cougar partially comes from Student Service Fees. It operates independently and is managed by students within the Center for Student Media. A monthly meeting of the Student Media Advisory Committee is held to oversee the publication's development and address any public concerns.
