The De Queen Bee

The De Queen Bee

The De Queen Bee newspaper was founded on June 4, 1897, by Walter A. Boyd, who was a printer, and J. W. Bishop, an attorney from Nashville. According to one account, the two men were seated on the steps of the courthouse in Nashville when they talked about creating a new town along the railroad in Sevier County, which was named De Queen. Recognizing a chance to start a business, they chose to launch a newspaper in this new town, naming it the De Queen Bee.
