SHREVEPORT, La. - The ability to effectively communicate an opposing opinion can feel impossible for adults, but not for some Caddo Magnet High School students. Members of the debate team recently took home the top prize in a state competition. Congratulations, Caddo Debate! CMHS debaters Parker Alleman and Skyler Vandiver retained their title as champions in Advanced CX along with Draco Addison and David Behrendt. Parker also received a top speaker award at the LHSSL State Championship tournament.

The CDC is reporting two to three times the average number of cases this year across the U.S. which means Norovirus infections are up in northwest Louisiana as well. Norovirus is the leading cause of vomiting and diarrhea, and foodborne illness in the United States. It's easily mistaken at first as food poisoning, but is a type of stomach flu and is highly contagious.

As KTBS continues to celebrate Black History Month meet Edith Walton, SPAR environmental services division manager. "We take care of the cleaning of 44 different facilities. We have a full service warehouse where we supply equipment and supplies for needs for the different buildings and so forth," said Walton.

Students can learn everything from American sign language for their foreign language course credit to African American History. Supervisor of Special Programs, Holly George, oversees distance learning. "We have this year about 325 students," said George.

Homebuilder Montrell Hall and his wife Kamelia are building on a trade that's been in their family for years. "African American builders, we represent less than 2% of builders nationwide. So for me, it's very important. I think back on my great grandfather, he was a tradesman, he was a bricklayer. I'm riding along a road that has been set forth by my ancestors and people that have come before me.
