Kentucky Rep. Andy Barr announced Tuesday that he would enter the Republican primary to succeed retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell, the former majority leader whom few Republican candidates want to be associated with these days. Barr launched his campaign with an endorsement from a different longtime Republican: fellow Rep. Hal Rogers, who has represented eastern Kentucky since 1981. Barr kicked off his long-awaited campaign two months after former Attorney General Daniel Cameron joined the race.

Georgia state Sen. Jason Esteves on Monday became the first Democrat to announce a campaign to replace Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, who cannot seek a third term. Esteves, who is Puerto Rican with Black ancestry and identifies as both Latino and Black, would be the first person of color elected governor in the Peach State, as well as the first Democrat to win the post since 1998. A coalition of labor groups called Protect Utah Workers announced Wednesday that it had submitted more than 320,000 signatures to place a referendum on the ballot that would give voters the chance to repeal a new law restricting collective bargaining recently passed by Republicans. Organizers need at least 140,748 valid signatures—an amount equal to 8% of the state's active voters—to qualify their measure and say they far exceeded their original goal of 200,000 signatures.
