With temperatures for the day peaking in the mid-70s and abundant bright sunshine very much in evidence, the conditions were perfect for Escalon’s first Farmer’s Market of the season. Booths were set up throughout the Main Street Park area, while musicians performed on stage, food booths were set up in the paved area to the west of the park and there was also an art station for kids.

My brother sent both my sister and I a text this past week; it included a photo of wildflowers, recently bloomed in the yard outside his house, coated with a layer of snow on the colorful petals. His comment was simple: “Hey, I thought it was spring …” My sister and I each texted back, with smiling emojis, because even though she and I are both now living in California, we remember those upstate New York springs.

Just a handful of contests remain for teams during this spring sports season at Escalon High School. All were busy this past week, with games and matches for boys volleyball, baseball, softball, tennis, boys golf and track and field. Following is a recap of the action. BOYS VOLLEYBALL Falling on the road, the varsity volleyball boys regrouped and came back to get a win at home. They faced off first against Orestimba on the road, April 7, a team they had beaten 3-1 earlier in the season.

The first Escalon Farmer’s Market of 2025 is scheduled for Wednesday, April 16. Hours are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with activities centered at Main Street Park, 1771 Main. The third Wednesday of the month throughout the spring and summer are set aside for the market, with future events slated May 21, June 18, July 16 and Aug. 20. Coordinated through the Escalon Chamber of Commerce, market coordinator Megan McNinch said there are a number of new features for this year.

An evening full of socializing, eating, offering up bids on both live and silent auction items and, finally, some dancing made for a successful Escalon High School Sports Boosters fundraiser. Staged at the Escalon Community Center, the catered dinner event saw the Boosters earn a profit of $45,000 that will help support all sports teams and programs at Escalon High School.
