One of many things I will not miss when this season finally ends will be going through the pain of our wretched home record any longer. Just as I ended last week with the comment that there was some fun still to be found in our finale in the top-flight, along came another dire result. But did Sunday’s heavy defeat come as any real surprise?…As I made my way to the game, it was in trepidation that it would be an afternoon where I really expected the worst and hoped for the best.

In the twilight of this first season back in the Premier League after a 22 year wait, it would be easy to just let it slip away without too much effort, given our perilous position. It is a matter of time before the dreaded ‘R’ appears next to our name in the league table.

It is typical that this column should come off the back of such a disappointing defeat to Wolves. Why could it not have been after that fabulous win at Bournemouth? It is also typical that I missed my first game of the season last Wednesday due to a work meeting. It was nice to take in a game at the weekend with no stress, just the enjoyment of watching a comfortable Town win. It was the first time that my daughter Angel and I took in an Ipswich Town Women’s game…We selected our usual seats that we watch the men’s games from in the lower tier of the North Stand and it could not have been a more different experience. It was expected that Town would win, and the tone was set inside two minutes.

Last Thursday evening, Mark Ashton and Kieran McKenna delivered another of their uplifting interviews. The club have a knack of producing these just at the right time…Beautifully orchestrated by Matt Holland, it was a reminder of our club’s journey and where we really are at right now. On the back of four successive league defeats, it served as a rallying cry ahead of the game at Aston Villa. Ashton spoke of unity and staying as ‘one’ to have a ‘right swing at this.’Against mounting odds.
