The Heartland Institute

The Heartland Institute is recognized as one of the top free-market think tanks globally. Located in Arlington Heights, Illinois, we are a national nonprofit organization focused on research and education. Our goal is to explore, develop, and advocate for free-market solutions to various social and economic challenges. We consider ourselves not just a "think tank," but also an "action tank," measuring our effectiveness by the real-world changes we inspire. Heartland Institute is a vital part of the growing movement for personal freedom and limited government, connecting leading writers and thinkers in the freedom movement with approximately 8,400 elected officials at both national and state levels. Due to our effectiveness, we have faced unjust criticism and even false claims from several liberal advocacy groups, public officials, and platforms like Wikipedia. We encourage you to visit our “Reply to Our Critics” page, where we address these criticisms and clarify our position. We appreciate your support in defending us against misinformation in online discussions and conversations with others. About Us Our dedicated team consists of 39 full-time staff members, supported by a 12-member Board of Directors. We are backed by around 5,500 donors and collaborate with approximately 500 academics and professional economists serving as Policy Advisors. Additionally, we have 33 senior fellows and 275 elected officials who are members of our Legislative Forum.
