Lunenburg shooting suspect in custody, victim recovering

Published 4:33 pm Wednesday, April 9, 2025 One person is recovering from gunshot wounds and the suspect in a Lunenburg shooting that happened Tuesday night is in custody today. The call came in to the sheriff’s office at about 7:52 p.m., which is when deputies responded to a report of shots fired on Mecklenburg Street. When they arrived, deputies found one man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Parts of Plank Road closed for repairs

Officials from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) closed parts of the road Monday morning, in order to start some bridge repair work. The section between Route 635 (Oral Oaks Road) and Route 643 (New Grove Road) is what got shut down. VDOT officials say if all goes according to plan, the bridge repairs should be finished by early July.
School construction sales tax proposal vetoed by governor

Published 5:57 am Tuesday, April 1, 2025 For the second straight year, a significant majority of the Virginia House and Senate approved the sales tax proposal, as a funding source for school construction. And for the second year, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has vetoed the proposal. Youngkin had a deadline of midnight on March 24 to veto or sign bills that passed in the 2025 Assembly session. As for the sales tax, he argued that now is not a good time to increase taxes for any reason.
Free RAM Clinic opens Saturday and runs all weekend

There will be a two-day pop-up RAM clinic taking place in the region this weekend. RAM stands for Remote Area Medical and the non-profit is setting up in Cumberland County, offering free services for any and all who come. Annual Meridian donation split to help public safety, community

Every year, the company, which is the parent operator of the Lunenburg landfill, gives $50,000 to be used for public safety and public health. It’s up to the county board of supervisors to decide what happens with that money.
