Published 8:32 am Tuesday, June 3, 2025 Now that the Joan Perry Brock Center is up and running, the focus is turning to the next big construction project for Longwood University. Over the last two years, plans have been worked on for a new state-of-the-art home for music and music education at the college, replacing Wygal Hall. The goal here is to build something that would be accessible both from Main Street and Brock Commons on campus, while adding to Farmville.

Published 9:31 am Tuesday, June 3, 2025 The baseball season continues for the Buckingham Knights, as they beat the Luray Bulldogs 7-0 in the first round of the regional high school playoffs on Monday, June 2. With the win, the team earns a home game for the second round in regionals, which will take place Wednesday, June 4, with the first pitch set for 4 p.m. Buckingham will be taking on Riverheads, looking to go to 17-1 on the season.

Published 11:20 pm Sunday, June 1, 2025 The work isn’t finished. In fact, in order to complete it, at some point over the next month the power will go out again for some Buckingham County residents. That was the message given Saturday afternoon by officials of the Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC). The company responded on its social media channels after a power outage that took nearly 24 hours to fix.

Published 8:27 pm Sunday, June 1, 2025 Donald Applegate originally filed his application back in February, requesting permission to open up a Buckingham repair shop. Over the last few months, his request has gone back and forth between the Buckingham planning commission and board of supervisors, unable to just get a simple thumbs up or thumbs down.

Published 12:18 am Sunday, June 1, 2025 Three team members were named regional champions and overall as a team, Cumberland earned Top Five finishes in both the men’s and women’s competitions. The regional meet was a great one this past week for the young Cumberland High Dukes, as the track team earned a spot in the state championship coming up. First, we need to give individual credit. Three Cumberland athletes are now regional champs in their respective events.
