Government accountability groups are asking the state Senate and Assembly to pass four bills to strengthen the state’s Freedom of Information Law. The state’s FOIL law allows citizens and journalists to request access to public records kept by state agencies and local governments to increase transparency. However, the freedom of information process can be long and full of setbacks. At times a request can leave someone waiting for months for a FOIL officer to process their request.
