The Louisville Cardinal

The Louisville Cardinal is a weekly student-run newspaper at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. It comes out every Tuesday during the school year and has an additional issue released in late April for summer distribution. Established in 1926, it has enjoyed financial and editorial independence since 1980. The Louisville Cardinal provides a platform and valuable experience for budding journalists. Notable advisers in recent years include Robert Schulman, Vince Staten, Kim Speirs, Mickey Meece, and the current adviser, Ralph Merkel. The editor is Kyeland Jackson.

    The University of Louisville’s Student Organization Activity Board (SOAB) hosted its spring Recognized Student Organization (RSO) fair in the Red Barn on Jan. 21, 2025. Members of the different RSOs handed out applications for their respective organizations along with free items such as stickers, candy, and plushies of Louie the Cardinal. The Lunar Lion Dance Organization even brought out a couple of props for their display to gain a greater student interest at the event.

    Dear Freshman,Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well and hanging in there as we approach the end of the semester. It’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown, and I know this stretch can feel like a lot with finals and everything piling up. Just remember — you’ve got this. Let’s take a moment to reflect on the recent election. I hope everyone had a chance to get out and vote. For me personally, being able to vote is a privilege that I’m deeply grateful for, especially as a Hispanic female.
