Clothing brand Tentree’s eco-focus is commendable, but are the clothes as stylish and well-made as they are sustainable? And how modest-man-friendly are they? Do any other elder millennials out there remember when the phrase “tree-hugger” was derogatory? I’m glad times have changed. You don’t need to be an activist to agree on the importance of the environment, particularly trees. Even clothing brands have gotten on board, likely as a response to fast fashion. Tentree is one of those brands.

Bold and distinct, plaid madras is associated with American prep. How did that happen, though? And can you pull it off sans the country club connotations? Madras plaid has always loomed large in my life. The patchy design is both relevant and nostalgic for me. See, my Connecticut-bred parents and I summered in Nantucket, where madras is a staple. Just out of habit, plaid shorts are my go-to for beachwear. I understand that it’s a polarizing style, though.

I’ve been wearing clothes from the environmentally minded Asket brand. They deliver on their brand promises and are (mostly) short-guy-friendly—but are they for you? I’m a fan of slow fashion. I never want to judge people who are on a budget but need clothes.

Is Bespoke Post good? Of course. But what about their home-grown clothing line, Line of Trade? Here’s all you need to know, including if it’s right for men of modest height. I’ve always been a fan of the subscription box company Bespoke Post. I often rave over their ability to curate men’s lifestyle products from under-the-radar brands (purveyors of cool, I call them). Beyond that, they’ve also taken a shot at a few of their own in-house labels.

I test-drove clothes from Taylor Stitch (and not just shirts) and The Tie Bar (including a non-tie). Do they continue to deliver? And how modest-man-friendly are these pieces? Read on! Purpose-built clothes are the heart of men’s style. Taylor Stitch and The Tie Bar understand this concept. They both offer comprehensive lines but start with a focus on one thing: shirting and ties, respectively.
