The Morrisburg Leader is a weekly newspaper that has been a staple in South Dundas for more than 155 years. Originally launched in 1862 as the Dundas Courier, The Leader holds the distinction of being the very first newspaper in Morrisburg. It was established by Hugh Campbell Kennedy, who was married to Kate Holden, the daughter of James Holden.

    MORRISBURG – Past Village of Morrisburg Reeve and United Counties Warden Carleton “Mike” McInnis K.C. died last week at the age of 95. McInnis was a practicing lawyer for much of his career in Morrisburg, and served nearly 20 years on village council in various roles including as Reeve. During his time leading Village council, he was elected as Warden of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry in 1972, serving one term.

    BROCKVILLE – The region’s largest school board has passed its largest budget to date, with a combined operations and capital spending plan worth over half a billion dollars. Trustees approved the spending plan at their June 18 meeting. The budget includes nearly $478 million for operations, and $72 million for capital projects. Capital project spending includes $55.7 million for upgrades in UCDSB schools for the 2025-25 school year.

    BROCKVILLE – A pair of former elementary schools that have been used by the Upper Canada District School Board for adult learning and administration offices are now surplus. The board declared the two properties surplus for disposition. A report from a May 18 closed session meeting was adopted by trustees at their June 18 regular meeting through the meetings consent agenda.

    MORRISBURG – A mowing error by a contractor June 6 resulted in damage to a significant portion of a natural border in the Morrisburg Waterfront Park. The border, which was planted by Watersheds Canada and local volunteers including schools, created a natural barrier using native plants to provide a barrier for geese, and transition from the water’s edge to parkland. It has been established over the past three years starting at the Morrisburg Beach and working west.
