CORNWALL – SDG Counties council approved funding to 13 of 15 applicants in this year’s Regional Incentives Program – with businesses in five-out-of-six municipalities receiving support. The only lower-tier municipality that had no businesses receiving any Counties money – South Dundas. Council approved at their April 22 meeting more than $250,000 in funding.

SOUTH DUNDAS – Convicted Iroquois property developer Edouard Bonamie – who has been allowed out on day parole release since November 2024 – has been denied full parole. Bonamie, 76, was sentenced at an Ottawa court in April 2024 after pleading guilty to four charges related to an international yacht fraud scheme which bilked three people out of over $1 million.

CORNWALL – A week after the federal election, official results for the riding of Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry showed that incumbent Conservative candidate Eric Duncan won 56.3 per cent of the popular vote April 28. Duncan – who was elected to his third consecutive term as MP, had 37,399 votes cast for him, an increase from the 2021 election – including redistributed votes with the riding being expanded in 2024.

MORRISBURG – Upper Canada Village opened its doors for the 2025 summer season on May 3, but May 11 is when Moms should go. In celebrating is season opening, the St. Lawrence Parks Commission – which owns and operates the historic 1860s village east of Morrisburg – announced that Moms will receive free admission on Mother’s Day this year, May 11. The village, which depicts pre-Confederation village life in Canada West, has also expanded its Canadian offerings in its village store.
