I know how they go, and they begin with this: an Oracle origin story. Mine starts with an Instagram post I saw, lying on a twin XL bed in a barren room. About a week early, I came to college with no voice from bronchitis, croaking out introductions while sounding like Kermit the Frog with emphysema.

    Sept. 22, 2023. I was in the passenger seat of a friend’s car checking my phone over and over looking for an email from The Oracle as to whether I’d be accepted as a new copy editor or not. When it eventually appeared, I read “Congratulations!” and my screams reverberated throughout the SUV. Every now and then, I find myself returning to the video my friend in the backseat recorded of me slamming my hands down on the dashboard and saying “yes” repeatedly.
