As a translator, I am fond of St. Jerome. The cranky early Christian desert monk created the Vulgate Bible and volumes of correspondence on everything from proper scriptural translation to the benefits of asceticism. A story about Jerome, likely apocryphal, sticks with me. One afternoon, in the midst of prayers, a lion came roaring into the monastery.

Jesus has done well without a public relations firm, commercials, or apps inviting believers to know him. Maybe that’s because his disciples – and most Christians throughout time – lived in a pre-tech world. Today, would Paul have produced a series of television commercials instead of writing letters-epistles?
