It was created out of Mary's passion for discovering stylish women's clothing and luxury items at bargain prices—let's call them budget-friendly finds! Mary dedicated countless hours to hunting down deals on her favorite designers, from Anya Hindmarch to Burberry to Diane Von Furstenberg, as well as vintage treasures like Celia Birtwell. In 2008, she realized that her quest for affordable luxury was unique, especially during tough economic times. Her motivation to share her fashion discoveries blossomed into a blog. The Recessionista serves as a platform for her to share her savings tips and empower others to find high-quality items at lower prices. Mary loves her Anne Fontaine blouse, Chanel bag, and Roland Mouret dress, but she prefers to avoid paying full retail prices. Dear readers, yes, we ARE in a recession. The signs of an economic downturn are all there. Massive layoffs, government spending cuts, the stock market crash and continuing market volatility. What else? Disruptions to global trade in the form of tariffs are on the horizon. Just when you think it couldn’t be any worse, more warning signs abound as if you are entering the Twilight Zone.

Disappointment is how I felt when I visited Mango at the Beverly Center in Los Angeles to see the Victoria Beckham x Mango in-person. This collection had potential based on the early lookbook and marketing promotions, but at the end of the day, it’s not worth investing in at its current retail prices and sizing. Dresses in the collection are priced from $230.00 to $300 USD and suit jackets are $300.00. A transparent (unlined) black silk bias cut dress retails for $360 USD.

In advance of the launch of the Dianne Von Furstenburg (DVF) for Target collection, Target has release images of the products and apparel coming to their stores and online on March 23, 2024. The initial images look good and the reuse of DVF’s colourful prints is outstanding. I’m most excited about the Women’s apparel from this DVF collection, but as Target did with their Liberty of London collaboration, shoppers will also find children’s apparel, stationary and home goods on offer at Target.

According to Target “200 pieces spanning apparel, accessories, beauty and home,” are coming to Target this Spring ” with most items under $50.”One of the standout pieces in the Target xDVF collaboration promises to a low-priced version of DVF’s iconic wrap dress.

Over the Christmas holidays, I indulged in the BLEUSALT holiday sale and I’ve been living in their comfortable clothing ever since. This clothing is so comfortable, you can wear it from morning to night without visible creasing or wear. All the clothes are super-soft and warm. My current favorite is the long sleeve crew neck dress in navy blue.

As a special New Year’s treat, Vogue (Simplicity) Patterns has reissued the original sewing patter for the Diane von Furstenberg (DVF) Wrap Dress. Some fashionistas may remember how popular the original DVF wrap dress was with working women when it was first issued. The DVF wrap dress was one simple piece women could wear to work and look super chic. Later, Vogue issued a sewing pattern for the popular dress. Eventually, the 70’s pattern was discontinued.
