For the past few years, locals have flocked to the Round Building at Carolyn Crayton Park, formerly known as Central City Park, to peruse the book sale’s budget offerings. Those who eagerly await the sale often bring large bags, boxes or carts knowing full well that they’ll be packed to the brim by the time they leave.

In 2021, Air Force veterans and Warner Robins residents Jason and Samantha Clarke hosted a gaming tournament during the Cherry Blossom Festival. They wanted to bring something they loved to Macon: nerd culture. The event was hosted in Fatty’s Pizza, and the turnout blew their expectations out of the water. “We had to essentially shut Fatty’s Pizza down because so many people came,” Jason said.

Five-year-old Phoenix McCoy marveled at the slithering dragons, and she bounced along to the drumbeats echoing through Chinatown on Sunday afternoon. It was Phoenix and her mother’s first time attending the neighborhood’s Lunar New Year Parade. They joined hundreds along Wentworth Avenue for several blocks to cheer on the steady stream of marchers. “My favorite part of the parade was the dragons” and the traditional dancers, Phoenix said. “It was a lot of fun,” added Jen Martin, her mother.
