A few weeks ago at a Schuylkill County zoning hearing, a Mahanoy City resident lamented that he felt the community had not been properly notified about the matter before the board. As required by law, neighboring property owners received a letter in the mail, a flyer was posted near the property, and a public notice was published, twice, in a print newspaper.

SHENANDOAH – State legislators were in town Wednesday to see what the borough termed emergency repairs to the Shenandoah Police Station on West Washington Street. State Reps. Tim Twardzik (R-123) and Dane Watro (R-116) along with State Senator Dave Argall (R-29) joined members of Shenandoah Borough Council, Borough Manager Mike Cadau, and Police Chief George Carado for a tour of the station.

SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah Borough Council voted Monday to foot the bill for a major repair to one of the Shenandoah Fire Department’s two aerial devices. Members of the fire department and its Rescue, Hook and Ladder company were on hand at Monday’s meeting to help explain the need. Borough Manager Mike Cadau said the cost would be up to $30,000. “It’s our ladder,” Cadau said of the importance of the expenditure.

SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – West Mahanoy Township officially has a new top cop, replacing longtime Chief Marvin Livergood. Township supervisors approved hiring Matthew Williams as police chief retroactive to May 16 at a rate of $29.16/hr. Williams was previously a full-time police officer with Shenandoah Borough and has worked part-time in numerous other departments in northern Schuylkill County. He was also Officer-in-Charge in Mahanoy Township.

RINGTOWN – The Ringtown Little League may take over maintenance of their portion of the Ringtown Recreation Complex if proposed ordinance amendments are approved by the borough and Union Township. It was the subject of lengthy discussions at Monday’s Ringtown Borough Council meeting and Tuesday’s Union Township Supervisors meeting. Curt Marquardt, a representative of Ringtown Little League, spoke at the Union Township meeting.
