LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) — A Lancaster County man will spend at least two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, accused of breaking his infant daughter’s bones. Bryan Garcia-Almanza, 26, of Mount Joy, was sentenced to 33 months to eight years in state prison last week. He had been accused of injuring his infant daughter last year.

The Susquehanna Township School District bought an office building on Deer Path Road, which will temporarily house 5th and 6th graders as well as district offices.

SHENANDOAH – The chairman of the Shenandoah Municipal Sewer Authority issued a public apology at this month’s meeting at borough hall Wednesday afternoon. Robert Shumski, 76, of Turkey Run, pleaded guilty last week to two summary charges related to a scuffle borough police said broke out when he was campaigning for borough council votes. He is not on the primary ballot for a council seat. He provided a brief statement at the beginning of Wednesday’s regular sewer authority meeting.

MAHANOY CITY – The Bishop of the Diocese of Allentown is calling the detonation of an “explosive device” at a Mahanoy City chapel an act of the “darkest evil” as police say it caused $15,000 in damage. Kyle Joseph Kuczynski, 32, of East Centre Street, was denied bail as he faces felony arson and reckless burning charges among others. According to Mahanoy City Police, he set off an “explosive device” inside the chapel at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish on West Mahanoy Street Tuesday night.

MAHANOY CITY – Two outstanding Mahanoy Area senior basketball players received all-state honors as part of the 2024-25 Pennsylvania Sportswriters’ All-State Awards. The teams were announced Sunday and Tanner Zawada and Jace Yedsena were named to the 3A Third Team. Yedsena is bound for Susquehanna while Zawada is bound for Kutztown. The two were part of back-to-back District XI titles for the Golden Bears and the team went 21-5 this year.

COAL TOWNSHIP – They say if you ask a Pennsylvanian if they prefer Sheetz or Wawa, they have their side. Neither option has existed in our area, but one is now inching closer. A new Wawa convenience store is taking shape in Coal Township just outside Kulpmont. When completed, it will be the Delaware County chain’s closest location to the Shenandoah area. Previously, the nearest Wawa was in Hamburg.
Talk of Town lawyers up, again decries ‘discriminatory’ towing ordinance

SHENANDOAH – Attorney Joseph Nahas, now representing Talk of Town Towing, took time during Monday’s Shenandoah Borough Council meeting to decry what he called discrimination by the borough in regards to towing services. Ruth Williams owns Talk of Town Towing and operates it with her husband Dwight. The two have been outspoken against the borough and called for a towing ordinance and the enforcement thereof for several years.
