The Single Supplement

This newsletter is designed specifically for single women. It was created by freelance journalist Nicola Slawson, who grew tired of the poor quality content available for independent women. Nicola wanted to read pieces that treated her with respect and didn’t portray her as unhappy or in need of a partner. As a result, she launched her own newsletter in October 2019.

This year, my closest friends and I have all been turning 40 and it’s making me feel all kinds of nostalgia for when we were young and spent all our time together. Sometimes this nostalgia has made me feel a kind of longing to go back and sometimes I can really appreciate where we are now. The older you get, the more you naturally peel apart, whether that’s geographically or in terms of life changes such as marriage and children.

After a period of back to back illnesses, associated sleep deprivation and a variety of other time-sucking things that required my full attention, I’m back with one of my promised guest pieces. I have a few ready to go and am excited to start with this one by Mel Johnson. Long time readers will know I’ve mentioned Mel, who runs the Stork and I community for people who are solo mothers by choice or considering going down that route.

I wanted to share with you something that I wrote for my book, which didn’t quite fit in anywhere so had to be cut. It’s about being ghosted by one of my best friends and even though it wasn’t right for the book, I still wanted to share it with you all because I know a lot of you struggle with friendship woes, judging by the messages I receive and the posts in the Facebook group.
