Carrington Hall was evacuated Friday morning around 9:30 a.m. due to a smell of smoke and visible haze on the second floor of the building. Missouri State University's alert system was activated almost immediately, as students and faculty received an alert of a fire inside Carrington by 9:31 a.m.The alert read, "A fire has been reported in Carrington on the Springfield campus.

The potential sighting has since been verified as false by multiple sources.
