Postseason competition has arrived for Metro Conference track and field competitors. The South Bay League finals are scheduled Wednesday, May 7, at San Ysidro High School while the Mesa League finals are scheduled Thursday, May 8, at Otay Ranch High School. The San Diego Section divisional championship meets are scheduled Saturday, May 17, followed by the section’s state-qualifying meet May 24 and the state championship meet May 30-31 in Clovis.

In May 1942 the United States internment camps were up and running. The federal government was rounding up Japanese- Americans in this country and shipping them off to isolated locations nationwide. The incarceration was the result of a presidential executive order— Order 9066.

Entering the final quarter of the 2025 high school spring sports season, the Mater Dei Catholic and Bonita Vista softball teams remain top contenders to capture San Diego Section championships. The same could be said about fellow Metro-Mesa League foes Eastlake and Otay Ranch. “There is no easy game in the Metro-Mesa League this season,” incoming Bonita Vista coach Vanessa Kalavi said. “The league is stacked from top to bottom.”No doubt about that.
