The Suffolk Journal serves as the student newspaper for undergraduates at Suffolk University. It has been in operation since 1936 without interruption. Each week, The Journal publishes a 16-page print edition that is distributed throughout the campus.

This week in Suffolk University sports: Baseball and softball handed quick playoff exits and track & field wraps up season at pair of meets. Baseball handed back-to-back playoff lossesBaseball took on Western New England University in the first round of the Conference of New England playoffs May 7, getting routed 11-1 by the Golden Bears. The Golden Bears had a 5-0 lead after three innings. In the fourth, the Rams scored their lone run of the day thanks to an RBI single by Sam Armbruster.

Thousands of people packed the streets of downtown Boston April 21 for the 129th annual Boston Marathon, watching as the course record was broken and Kenyan elite runners won the men’s and women’s races. After losing to Hellen Obiri in 2024, Sharon Lokedi captured the title in the women’s race this year, crossing the finish line with a 2:17:22 time after outkicking Obiri at the end. Lokedi’s time shatters the previous women’s course record of 2:19:59, set by Buzunesh Deba in 2014.

Pope Francis, first Latin American and Jesuit pontiff, dies at 88Church bells tolled across the world to mourn the life of Pope Francis, who died at 88 in Rome April 21, one day after Easter Sunday. Catholics and global leaders remembered the pontiff for his humility, consideration for the impoverished, and efforts to bring the 2,000-year-old institution into discussions of modern issues. The Vatican announced Francis died of a stroke that led to a coma and heart failure.
