It wasn’t hard to find Alina Tran at Tallassee High School. The Class of 2025 valedictorian was always in one of her favorite places, the band room or the greenhouse. A vehicle carrying two juvenile shooting victims was riddled with evidence of gunfire. Court documents reveal the May 19 shooting was over a long distance on Highway 229 in Tallassee as two vehicles traveled south. One vehicle saw Devonte Tyus, 20, of Tallassee at the wheel and Jartavious Jackson, 25, as the passenger. The other vehicle contained two adults and two juveniles.

A Tallassee man is charged with shooting a man outside a Jordan Avenue business. The Tallassee Police Department arrested Donte’ Harris, 28, of Tallassee, Sunday after a shooting was reported on May 15. According to court records, the Tallassee Police Department responded to the Marathon on Jordan Avenue about gunshots. “On arrival contact was made with (a witness) who advised a male had yelled he had been shot after he witnessed a verbal altercation and saw a firearm,” the incident report states.

Tallassee High School has its first graduate entering a FAME program. Tien Vuong was about to enter the workforce after graduating from Tallassee High School. Now he is the school’s first-ever student to take advantage of advanced manufacturing training under the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education. Voung will become a part-time employee of Briggs & Stratton working 30 hours per week while earning an associate’s degree in applied science in advanced manufacturing.
