Three Elmore County departments will receive updated copiers after approval by the Elmore County Commission. The commission office, public works department, mapping department and EMA office will soon have new contracts from a state contract for copiers. “One of the leases has expired and is now month to month,” Elmore County chief engineer Luke McGinty said. “The others are close to expiring.

A fresh look is coming to the Southside Middle School library. The Tallassee Board of Education approved the measure at its last meeting and the refresh will create a more inviting environment for students. “The plans are to replace all shelving, add new tables and chairs for a greater space for collaboration for students,” SMS principal Brittany Spencer said.

The Tallassee Area Chamber of Commerce is hoping bringing back the yard of the month will bring an increase in civic pride. The last time the chamber recognized property owners in this way was before the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are trying to get it back going to help promote Tallassee,” chamber director Carmen Rodgers said. “It’s an easy way to get a lot of people in the community involved.”The program will recognize four properties each month.

Autauga County residents have voted down ad valorem increases for school multiple times. It has forced the Autauga County Board of Education to make decisions such as closing Autaugaville schools. Leaders have also had to look at possibilities of other funding including collecting taxes from the Elmore County portion of Prattville. Many of those funds currently go to Elmore County Schools.

A Munson Foundation scholarship at the University of Alabama is allowing a 2022 Wetumpka High School graduate to discover a possible career. A 2022 Wetumpka High School graduate, Ella Kate Baker, took advantage of the opportunity through an internship with Black Warrior Riverkeeper this summer to expand her knowledge of public relations. The Munson Foundation provides the funding for the work with nonprofit organizations. The Black Warrior Riverkeeper is similar to the Coosa Riverkeeper.
