On May 19 in Johnson County Circuit Court, Edwin Blake Phillippi, 31, pled guilty to second-degree murder in the May 2024 stabbing death of his father, 51-year-old Robert Phillippi Jr. Charges of possession with intent to sell or deliver Schedule I and Schedule III drugs were dismissed as part of the plea deal.

    Weaving through trails in the Doe Mountain Recreation Area, ultramarathon runners pushed themselves as part of the Kettlefoot Race on May 31. In total, 28 runners took part in and finished the 50K run, with times ranging from the winning five hours, 15 minutes and three seconds to a 58-year-old completing the trek 28 seconds short of 10 hours at nine hours, 59 minutes and 32 seconds. More took park in the 25K and 13K run.
