As a gun violence survivor, the Roseland native has been voluntarily helping to resolve intra-community conflicts in her neighborhood. “It’s a part of living in the environment. The Government Alliance for Safe Communities (GASC), a collaboration among state, county and city leaders, announced today the launch of a new $20 million grant to support community violence intervention efforts in Chicago and suburban Cook County. The grant, known as the Cook County Community Violence Intervention (CC-CVI), marks the second round of funding from the GASC in 2025. It will be administered by the Cook County Justice Advisory Council (CCJA).

On Friday, the Chicago City Council finance committee voted 12-15 to block a $1.25 million settlement for the family of Dexter Reed, a 26-year-old Black man fatally shot by Chicago police officers during a traffic stop on the West Side in 2024. “The family is disappointed, but the family is going to continue their quest for justice,” said civil rights attorney Andrew M. Stroth, who represents the Reed family.
