By Karen HaaveEight members of the Peotone High School Class of 1954 marked their 70th reunion this summer, a celebration filled with memories and tinged with wistfulness. The class has met for 32 reunions over the years, in restaurants, state parks, Joliet Frontier League baseball games, Twilight Cruises, a Passion Play, and quiet suppers in members’ homes. There were trips to Chicago, Peoria, Starved Rock, Shipshewana, Nebraska, and Holland, Michigan.

Founded in 1960, the family-owned car dealership was one of an estimated 60 in the Chicago area to participate, once again, in the USO BBQ for the Troops campaign. The program launched 11 years ago, after the Chicago Auto Trade Association and area new-car dealers partnered with the USO to raise money for local troops and their families.

Village Administrator Ruben Bautista told the board that the Monee Historical Society will host an Art Auction & Wine Reception on August 17, from 4 to 7 p.m.“As part of the day’s planned event will be the Gunderson Art Auction, allowed by a wine and cheese reception, should the board approve this (liquor license) request,” Bautista said. “The reception will be a ticketed event to help raise funds for the Monee Historical Society.

The Monee Senior Community Cafe offers nutritious and delicious meals weekdays, giving seniors the opportunity to enjoy good food in the company of others. In addition to providing meals, there are organized social activities and events, creating a space where older adults can connect, share stories, and build friendships.
