A memorial gathering will be taking place next month at the Empire of India in Queens Road in Keynsham in honour of the restaurant’s manager who died earlier this month. Alongir Miah, known to many as Alon, passed away on Friday 9th May. His funeral was held privately in accordance with Islamic traditions. However, there will be a memorial open to everyone to remember and honour him on Sunday 22nd June at 6pm.

A fundraising campaign for a retired South Gloucestershire teacher whose home was gutted in a blaze earlier this month has so far generated donations totalling more than £6,600. Nicole Shellard launched the GoFundMe campaign after the devastating fire at her neighbour Frank Woodman’s home in Bath Road, Willsbridge, on the evening of Tuesday 20th May. The fire also damaged three sheds and fire investigators believe the cause was accidental.

Bath magistrates have ordered a prolific shoplifter to pay compensation of more than £3,300 to the Keynsham stores he stole from. The court heard on Wednesday, 28th May, that James Maggs, of Wyndham Crescent in Brislington, stole items from Boots, Savers, Poundland and the independent gift and accessories shop Trigaci. Maggs admitted four charges of theft and asked for 10 similar shoplifting offences to be taken into consideration.

The Bitton & Parkwall policing team say they are aware that people in the area are still having issues with young people kicking on doors and running off, but incidents are not being reported to them. Earlier this year we reported that officers had identified six young people after a spate of anti-social behaviour in the Cadbury Heath, Oldland Common and North Common area linked to a TikTok craze which involves running up to people’s doors and kicking them hard before running away.

Crews from three fire stations have helped rescue a dog in Keynsham Memorial Park. Crews from Bath, Temple, and Bedminster were called at 3.10pm on Tuesday 20th May to reports of a dog on an embankment by the water.
