That is not a typo. It’s not a football score. Eddie Smith and the Washington Husky baseball team absolutely demolished Seattle U as the Huskies got a really strong (and incredibly lopsided) 22-run victory Tuesday evening. And I absolutely love it. This Washington Husky baseball team is in the midst of an absolutely bizarre (and also truly a chaotically fun season so far), folks. They’re not particularly impressive when looking at their overall record at 19-19 on the season.

We’ve got some Washington Husky news and notes and nonsense, folks. And, well, there’s just not much nonsense going around right now. Instead, there’s actually a fair bit of actually interesting stuff going around. Like some former Huskies getting recognized by one of the brightest minds over at ESPN and the always wonderful fun that is spring football that is happening right now.

After Jake Browning ran out of eligibility and threw for a bunch of yards and touchdowns in his four years with the Washington Huskies, UW was able to get another Jacob who transferred from the SEC all the way to Seattle. And it is absolutely fascinating to point out that Jacob Eason put up very similar stats to what Jake Browning had on average. Thanks to Eason, for the sixth time ever, a Washington Husky managed to throw for 3000 or more yards in a single season.

A couple seasons after Jake Browning lit up defenses and managed to throw for over 40 touchdowns in a single season back in 2016, he followed that up with a pretty respectable showing in which he happened to throw for over 3000 yards once more in 2018. Now, the totality of the 2018 performance wasn’t quite as impressive as what Browning was able to pull off in 2016.

The Keith Price era of Washington Husky football was really intriguing to watch. He didn’t have a tangible impact on the product on the field in 2010, but he was electrifying to watch during the 2011 Washington Husky football season and he definitely seemed to put the Huskies in a position to win on multiple occasions. During that 2011 season, Price managed to put up 3063 yards through the air.

The Washington Huskies had one heck of a quarterback back in the 2002 season. They really had a fantastic and fun passing attack that absolutely devastated opposing teams on a very regular basis and it is an absolute shame that UW didn’t win more games in 2002. But, hey, I have a rule. Or rather a few rules. Like if you’re going to be the guy that follows “the guy,” then you’re probably going to get fired for not meeting expectations.

There should be some sort of study to examine all of the different, impressive ways that Ryan Grubb and Kalen DeBoer found to make an impact on the Washington Husky record book in such a brief period of time. I mean, we’re talking about a period of two years and several of their offensive stars made their way into the record book at some point or another. There’s just so many. And it’s not like we have to do a ton of digging to find a bunch of examples.

There are so many different things that I think Jedd Fisch did absolutely right as he started rebuilding the Washington Huskies. The man seems to be pretty smart and he knows how to build a program (as evidenced by how quickly he got the Arizona Wildcats turned around. He knows how to connect a team with its fanbase and he knows what it’s like coaching in the pros. He knows a lot. The man is pretty dang brilliant.

The most recent example of a Washington Husky throwing for at least 3000 yards in a single season also happens to be the most impressive example of a Washington Husky throwing for at least 3000 yards in a single season. Shoutout to Michael Penix Jr., who led the Huskies in 2023 and absolutely obliterated records time and time again. And in this case, he actually beat some of his own records. Like the single season record for the most passing yards in Washington Husky football history.
