    On Tuesday and Wednesday last week, our Tombstone Volunteer Fire Department showed off the results of their constant training. First at Walter J. Meyer School. On a very hot next-to-last day of school, hundreds of happy screaming students laughed as they dunked their teachers into a big tank brought over by Councilmember Colin Regan. One by one, Hannah Skinner, Maribel Gonzalez, and Desi Luna dropped into the delightfully cool water.

    Gunshots rang out in Wyatt’s Oriental Saloon last Friday evening, as 65 members and guests of the Southern Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce met for a special Regional/International mixer in Tombstone. Attendees came not only from Tombstone and Sierra Vista, but from Tucson, Benson, Douglas, Graham County as well as Sonora, Mexico.

    We’ve got a real treat coming this Saturday, according to Bonnie Darlington of the Vigilettes. “It’s our Annual Bake Sale,” she says, “And you’ll find more than a dozen lovely ladies in our 1880s attire out on the boardwalk selling freshly-baked cake, cupcakes, cookies, and brownies.” Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM, along Allen Street and also at the Tombstone Chamber of Commerce next to the Visitors Center on 4th Street.

    Last Monday night, the Tombstone Restoration Commission held its annual meeting at their building near 6th and Toughnut. President Bob Ramirez presented the TRC’s 2024 report marking several substantial achievements. Major repair work on Schieffelin Hall is completed, with thanks to Linda Krater of the Walter Ferguson Foundation and their $500,000 restoration grant.

    Tombstonian Heather Rose, Vicar at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for five years, has accepted a new position as Rector of the Episcopal Church of Lincoln County, Diocese of the Rio Grande. She will oversee three parishes -- Church of the Holy Mount, Ruidoso, St. Anne’s Church, Glencoe, and St. Matthias Church, Carrizozo... as well as preaching at the 100-member Church of the Holy Mount in Ruidoso.
