Total Croatia News

The Total Project began in October 2011 when British author Paul Bradbury sought to enhance the information services for visitors to Croatia's beautiful Hvar Island. With five separate tourist boards that rarely communicated, Bradbury created the guidebook "Hvar: An Insider's Guide" to consolidate information about the island. This effort was followed by a website sharing the same mission, and Total Hvar has since emerged as the leading resource for everything related to the island, featuring over 9,000 articles on various aspects of life there. In November 2012, responding to the lack of English-language information about the Dalmatian capital, Total Split was launched, accompanied by the guidebook "Split: An Insider's Guide," co-authored with Mila Hvilshoj. The achievements of both websites were recognized at the National Society of Journalists in December 2014, where Bradbury received the FIJET 2014 Marco Polo Award for his outstanding promotion of Croatia, a feat he repeated in 2017 for his work on Advent in Zagreb. The first official partnership for Total came in late 2013 when the Central Dalmatia Tourist Board, local tourist boards from Zagora, and the Ministry of Tourism collaborated to create Total Inland Dalmatia. This initiative brought together the diverse offerings of this intriguing region in English for the first time. Following this, more destination sites were established, creating the Total family, which now includes Total Zagreb, Total Dubrovnik, Total Medjugorje, and Total Korcula. To further enhance the quality of information available in key areas of Croatian tourism, dedicated sites were launched, including Total Croatia Wine, Total Croatia Sailing, and Total Croatia Cycling. The motivation behind Total Croatia News (TCN) is straightforward. Even after Croatia joined the EU in 2013, there was a lack of a daily news platform that provided coverage on news, politics, business, lifestyle, travel, sports, and opinions in English. TCN was created to fill this gap and has since gained Google News accreditation, attracting attention from international media outlets. In March 2016, TCN also introduced a daily political and business newsletter, which is sent to embassies and businesses by 09:00 every weekday. With over 30,000 articles published, TCN covers a wide array of topics pertinent to Croatia and is recognized by Google News. The platform has garnered praise from major publications, including the New York Times, which visited Hvar in Summer

March 24, 2025 – Croatian tourism noise and Hvar Town: Is one of Croatia’s most elite destinations being singled out, and is there a national, rather than a local, issue that needs to be addressed? Before I start, let me acknowledge that whatever I write on the subject of anything related to party tourism on Hvar, the polarising opinions of both sides mean that nothing anyone can write would satisfy everyone.

February 21, 2025 – Lazy days by the glistening Adriatic on Croatia’s Premier Island are not far away, and a chance for a little saving with the Suncani Hvar hotels early booking scheme…It was a glorious day in Zagreb, one of the very best in winter. Bright sunshine in uninterrupted blue skies as I walked at length through the Croatian capital. And, having lived on Croatia’s sunshine island for 13 years, there is only one place my mind goes back to when the sun is shining.

November 29, 2024 – A perfect gift idea for those proud of their Croatian heritage – meet the Zaks Heritage Collection. One of the things that always strikes me about Croatia is just how proud its people are about the country and heritage, and they like to celebrate their Croatian-ness at every opportunity. Seemingly everyone in the country owns a national team football shirt, as was evidenced by the 550,000 people on the streets of Zagreb after the 2018 World Cup Final.

November the 8th, 2024 – Zagreb attracts the crowds for plenty of reasons, from history to culture to its proximity to plenty of places across Europe, but that’s far from all. The Zagreb gastro scene is booming, and the Croatian capital has everything from old markets selling local produce to festivals and a vibrant culinary offer.

October the 16th, 2024 – The Zagreb craft beer scene is booming, with something to suit every single palate from an increasing number of fresh breweries. If you’d asked the majority of people about Zagreb about a decade ago, you’d have been met with one or two responses. The first would have been “Where?” and the second would have been “I’ve landed there/flown from there”. It’s no secret that Zagreb’s potential was unseen. It was one of Europe’s less interesting capitals.
