A compact field of six fillies and mares will run 1 1/8 miles on the Del Mar lawn in Saturday’s $250,000 John C. Mabee S. (G2). Conditioner Leonard Powell has endured a fine meeting to this point, and he will add to his local success with #5 Neige Blanche (5-2) in the affair. The six-year-old daughter of Anodin is a multiple graded stakes heroine with a nose for the wire evidenced by her 10-for-23 career mark, which includes a pair of nice victories on the Del Mar green.

A pair of $500,000 stakes races for two-year-olds will highlight the action at Kentucky Downs on Sunday. A dozen males will travel one mile in the first black-type race of the afternoon. Trainer Saffie Joseph has attempted to get #7 Billy the Greek (8-1) on the turf twice, with each event being moved to the main track, but the son of Goldencents will get his race on the lawn in this dash and I’ll give him the slight nod.

A pair of competitive graded stakes tilts on the Woodbine turf will lead the day of racing north of the border on Saturday. The 1 1/4-mile event for the boys attracted a solid field of eight that lacks a clear standout, in my opinion. Roger Attfield’s #1 Ready for the Lady (8-1) has delivered a trio of good performances at this venue as of late and will aim to defend his title in the contest.
