    UPS delivery driver Tyler Cox filed a federal lawsuit April 7, accusing Uvalde County Judge Bill Mitchell of violating Cox’s civil rights and seeking $14.75 million in damages, plus court costs. Cox, 28, of Sabinal, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas.

    The city of Sabinal alleges that in 33 days, one residence used 822,000 gallons of water, which is equivalent to about eight sink taps or five broken toilets running at full water pressure 24 hours a day, every day. The city sent Mary Gonzales of Sabinal two bills adding up to nearly $3,000 for two months of water use totaling 989,000 gallons. Calling the situation “outrageous,” Gonzales said she has not had any visible flooding at her home in the 500 block of West Rheiner Street.

    The Uvalde County Republican Women have invited Lucas Denney, a Jan. 6, 2021, protestor whom President Donald Trump pardoned this year, to speak April 10 at 6 p.m. at the Uvalde Country Club. Denney, a U.S. Army veteran, pleaded guilty March 17, 2022, to one count of assaulting, resisting or impeding officers with a dangerous weapon, for striking an officer with a PVC pipe.

    The Knippa Independent School District’s Rockcrushers kept up a tradition of excellence March 26 and were victorious in the District 31-A University Interscholastic League academic competition. Knippa finished first overall as a team with 577.5 points, followed by Nueces Canyon, 214; Medina, 178.5; Rocksprings, 122; D’Hanis, 121; Comstock, 120; Leakey, 94; and Utopia, 50. The journalism team and the speaking team finished second overall.
