2025 got off to a flying start at Young V&A with the wonderfully inspiring – and busy – opening of Making Egypt, our second exhibition.  Why Making Egypt, here at Young V&A, you may well be asking yourselves. The reason being that, from ancient Egypt, along the river Nile, to contemporary Egypt, creativity was and is, everywhere.​ And creativity is at the heart of Young V&A.

Last month, we threw open the doors of V&A East Storehouse for a careers open day like no other. With our official opening set for 31 May 2025, we wanted to give potential future employees a first glimpse into what’s coming – and, more importantly, how they can be a part of it. Whether you’re job hunting, thinking about volunteering, or just curious about what goes on behind the scenes at a museum, this event was all about showing you the different ways to get involved.

If you were to select an object from the V&A’s collection that represents the relationship between art, war, and technology, you might be drawn to the plaster cast of Trajan’s Column in the Cast Courts, with its finely rendered images of military equipment, uniforms, and tents. Alternatively, you might choose a leaf from the Almain Armourer’s Album, a book of Elizabethan armour designs that combine defensive equipment with decadent decoration.
