The V&A is pleased to announce the four winners of the 2025 V&A Parasol Foundation Prize for Women in Photography, the third iteration of the museum’s open call prize which identifies, supports and champions the talent of global female photographers. This year’s submissions represents an exciting and diverse approach to global contemporary photographic practice, with artists demonstrating innovative and creative responses to the Prize theme of ‘Unity’.

Poulomi Basu’s striking photographic work ‘Centralia’ is now on display as part of the ‘Photography Now’ gallery rotation in the Photography Centre. Purchased by the Photography Acquisitions Group in 2021, the installation features a selection of works from the acquisition, exploring a decades-long geopolitical conflict in central and eastern India through a conceptual contemporary perspective. Poulomi Basu is an Indian transmedia artist, photographer and activist.

To celebrate our collaborative exhibition, Acts of Resistance: Photography, Feminisms and the Art of Protest, a partnership between the with South London Gallery, we invited writer Neha Kale to reflect on the importance of the photographic archive as a tool of protest and a ‘site of resistance’. Neha Kale is a widely-published writer and cultural critic who focuses on the intersection of art, contemporary culture and society.

We are delighted to celebrate the winners of the 2024 V&A Parasol Foundation Prize for Women in Photography. Back for its second year, the Prize was established to identify, support, and champion women artists. It is an important part of the wider V&A Parasol Foundation Women in Photography Project. Produced in partnership with Peckham 24, south London’s innovative photography festival, the prize amplifies the voices of women, celebrates diversity and promotes equality in the arts.

Acts of Resistance: Photography, Feminisms and the Art of Photography is a new collaborative group exhibition organised with the South London Gallery and the V&A’s , which brings together works by artists and collectives to explore feminism and activism from an international and contemporary perspective. We asked several of the participating artists to nominate a book, poem, or activist which complements the exhibition themes and inspires change.
