The Belen Board of Education unanimously approved the 2025-26 student calendar for BCS on Tuesday, April 8, with a start date of Monday, Aug. 4, a three-day Thanksgiving break and final day of classes on Thursday, May 21.

    JARALES — A Sandoval County man was shot and killed in Jarales at the end of March after an apparent exchange of gunfire. Valencia County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday, March 31, after reports of gunfire at a home on the 200 block of Jarales Road. The residents at the house told the dispatcher people were outside the house, shooting them “in an apparent attempt to kill them,” according to a press release provided by the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office.

Some of these were on burn days,” said VCFD Chief Matt Propp. “That was really the trigger, seeing these really big fires on controlled burn days with good weather.
