Walterboro Live
The Press and Standard first hit the stands in 1877 as a weekly publication owned by the W.W. Smoak family. This newspaper caters to Walterboro, located in Colleton County, a rural area along the coast nestled between Charleston County and Beaufort County. Interstate 95, which stretches from Maine to Florida, splits Colleton County into eastern and western sections. The eastern side is home to most of Walterboro, the county's largest town, as well as significant portions of the Ashepoo, Combahee, and South Edisto rivers. These rivers contribute to the ACE Basin, one of the largest untouched estuaries on the East Coast of the United States. In contrast, the western side of I-95 is more rural, featuring thousands of acres of pristine land.

While she may not have been teaching the three Rs, what she did was equally important. Kimberly is from Colleton County specifically Cottageville. She currently lives in Walterboro, but Cottageville will always be home to her. She attended Cottageville Elementary School in the old building that burned down in 2018.
