Walterboro Live
The Press and Standard first hit the stands in 1877 as a weekly publication owned by the W.W. Smoak family. This newspaper caters to Walterboro, located in Colleton County, a rural area along the coast nestled between Charleston County and Beaufort County. Interstate 95, which stretches from Maine to Florida, splits Colleton County into eastern and western sections. The eastern side is home to most of Walterboro, the county's largest town, as well as significant portions of the Ashepoo, Combahee, and South Edisto rivers. These rivers contribute to the ACE Basin, one of the largest untouched estuaries on the East Coast of the United States. In contrast, the western side of I-95 is more rural, featuring thousands of acres of pristine land.

All roads lead to Colleton County. I know that’s not the saying, but if you go around and inquire, you will find quite a few people who aren’t originally from here including myself. However, people here welcome us and weave us into the tapestry of the community. Omar Jeter is one of those people who was welcomed in and are now part of the landscape of the area just like he’s been here since day one. Omar is from Brooklyn, New York.
